This small multi-storey car park on the North Devon coast was in very poor condition and threatened with demolition.

Car Deck was able to offer a successful solution.

The works commenced in September 2000 with Practical Completion before Christmas.

The car park is owned by a residents association who approached a number of specialist companies to discuss re-construction techniques and various ways of achieving a cost effective solution.

The local planning authority was unhappy with the car park's present position and made it clear that they would resist granting approval for construction of a new car park on this site. To avoid potential delay it was considered necessary to repair the structure rather than rebuild. The planning authority would be obliged to approve the project in principle as it would not be new work.

The owners then invited fixed price tenders for a turnkey package including design of the repair, submitting planning applications, demolition, strengthening the existing steel frame and reconstruction.
